Hockey appoints advisors for global financial centre

Joan Fitzpatrick, CEO of the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, is one of 11 private sector professionals appointed to advise Financial Services and Regulation Minister Joe Hockey on making Australia – or at least Sydney – a global financial centre.

The high-level committee includes ANZ Banking Group CEO John McFarlane, and Victorian merchant banker and political mover and shaker Michael Kroger. Mr Hockey said the committee is made up of people “who can provide advice and feedback on our plans to make Australia a global financial centre”.

It will “provide a mechanism for building a closer working relationship with the private sector”, serving as a forum for “advice and perspectives on the issues impacting upon Australia’s development as a financial centre”, Mr Hockey said.
