HIH disqualification set aside
The Administrative Appeals Tribunal has overturned the disqualification of a former HIH director.
Robert Reginald Stitt, who was a non-executive director of HIH Insurance between 1992 and 2001, was disqualified by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority in June 2007 from being or acting as a director or senior manager of a general insurer.
The tribunal’s decision means Mr Stitt will be treated as if he had never been disqualified.
The decision is the result of a review sought by Mr Stitt just five days after he was disqualified.
He was a member of HIH’s audit committee and its human resources committee and was also a director of company subsidiary HIH Investment Holdings.
