Guiding employees back to work
WorkCover WA is demystifying the workers’ compensation scheme for employers, highlighting the role of insurance in getting employees back on the job.
Its new injury management guide for employers replaces the old guidance notes, which were published in 2005.
It provides a three-step approach to effective injury management, details how to implement management systems and expands information previously offered on alternative, modified and restricted duties for employees returning to work.
The guide also has a “tool box” for employers, which contains information and templates needed when filing an injury claim.
WorkCover WA’s GM Regulatory Services Tim Roach says the guide has been developed to help employers understand their obligations.
“Insurers, medical practitioners and workplace rehabilitation providers will also find the publication useful to assist them and their clients to understand the legal requirements,” he said.
The booklet explains that while employers may sign over responsibilities to their insurer to develop and implement a return to work program, they still have to ensure an injury management system is in place.
