Governments agree to regional NSW flood grants
The NSW and Federal governments have announced a jointly funded $9.1 million initiative to support the recovery of flood-affected communities.
The grants, funded under the governments’ Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, will be delivered to service providers and other non-governmental organisers to assist with the operational costs of rebuilding NSW’s Western, Murrumbidgee, Far West and New England districts.
$6.5 million will go directly to community and volunteer-based organisations across the regions, with an additional $1.5 million allocated to on-the-ground support officers. A further $1.1 million will also be available for current service providers for the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.
NSW Emergency Services Minister Jihad Dib says the funds will help continue to provide critical assistance to communities who continue to be affected by floods last August and September.
“While storms may last a few days, the recovery efforts can take several years, from rebuilding homes to reestablishing businesses,” Mr Dib said.
“Once emergency services leave disaster-affected areas, community and non-government organisations play a crucial role in helping people recover and rebuild.”
