Government adopts disaster management approach
The Federal Attorney-General has released arrangements outlining the combined federal, state, territory and local government approach to emergency management.
Robert McClelland says the Australian Emergency Management Arrangements give people an understanding of how the Government deals with hazards, including the collaboration necessary to match the response and assistance required.
"These arrangements will assist in creating more informed and safer communities that are better able to withstand natural disasters," he said.
While state and territory governments are responsible for emergency management within their jurisdictions, the Australian arrangements are based on partnerships between all levels of government as well as business, industry and the community to minimise vulnerability to disasters and help recovery.
