FSL monitor issues tax guidelines on refunds
The Victorian Fire Services Levy Monitor has issued further guidelines for insurers that over-collected the levy.
The update includes advice from the State Revenue Office and the Australian Taxation Office on the tax component of refunds.
Victoria’s levy was abolished last July. In its final year insurers had to estimate the sum they would be required to pay fire services, with the actual amount not settled until last October.
Companies must now refund any over-collection. The monitor has provided additional guidance on this process and templates for insurers.
