Former Suncorp CEO Cameron joins icare board

Former Suncorp CEO Michael Cameron has joined the board of NSW state-owned insurer icare as it introduces reforms to improve its performance and overhauls its leadership.

Mr Cameron, who departed Suncorp last year, has board experience with listed, government and not-for-profit organisations.

“Michael’s experience in leading major cultural and organisation transformations and his involvement in regulatory governance reviews will be invaluable to icare,” Chairman John Robertson said.

John Walsh, a former PwC senior partner and actuary to workers’ compensation schemes including WorkCover, is also joining the board. Mr Walsh is a former Actuary of the Year.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says that refreshing the icare board was one of the key priorities for Mr Robertson, who was appointed chairman in September.

“The changes taking place at icare are among the biggest since it was created in 2015 and will ensure icare delivers on its core promise of protecting and supporting injured workers,” he said.

icare is yet to announce a new CEO, with group executive Don Ferguson stepping in to the role on an interim basis in August following the resignation of John Nagle.
