Former SA agent sentenced

Former insurance agent Janice Lewinski has appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 10 charges relating to the receipt of clients’ insurance premiums that were not passed on to insurers.

Ms Lewinski, 48, of Seacombe Heights, was discharged without conviction following her guilty plea and participation in the court’s mental health diversionary program.

She was placed on a $500 good behaviour bond for 18 months and ordered to repay four lots of premium totalling $5510.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) alleged that between August 1999 and October 2000 Ms Lewinski, as the sole proprietor of Harrerds Insurance Agencies, received premiums totalling $12,498 from clients under proposed contracts of insurance. She failed to pass the money on to the insurance companies.

Two years ago Ms Lewinski was permanently barred from providing any financial services regulated by ASIC.
