Former Hobart planner admits to stealing $4.5 million

Former Tasmanian financial planner Mervyn Mitchell has pleased guilty to 110 charges in relation to the theft of $4.5 million from his clients.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission alleges that from 1995-2003 Mr Mitchell dishonestly obtained the money from the super and investment funds of 59 clients and then used the funds for his own purposes.

Mr Mitchell is already banned for life from providing any form of financial services and he is due to be sentenced in the Supreme Court of Tasmania on April 19.
