FMA’s growing role leads to restructure

New Zealand’s Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has announced a revised structure and key appointments to its executive committee.

Nick Kynoch has been appointed General Counsel, in an expanded role that includes litigation and enforcement, corporate legal, regulatory policy and the FMA’s own governance.

He starts in January, leaving his role as Global Head of Contentious Regulatory Compliance and Conduct Risk at the investment banking arm of Barclays in London.

Sarah Coleman has been made Director of People and Capability. She joined the FMA in September from law firm Chapman Tripp, where she was director of human resources.

Two new executive roles have been created, with appointments from within the regulator.

Garth Stanish becomes Director of Capital Markets, delivering an end-to-end contact point for capital market participants and issuers.

Simone Robbers is Director of Strategy and Risk, providing senior leadership for development of the FMA’s regulatory strategy.

CEO Rob Everett says the new structure reflects the increasing range and depth of activity under the FMA’s mandate. The new leadership roles join current executive committee members Director of Regulation Liam Mason and COO John Botica.
