Ex-broker jailed

Former unlicensed NSW broker Marcus Anthony has been jailed for six months and fined $500 after pleading guilty to fraud and operating as an unlicensed broker.

Mr Anthony is already serving a sentence for offences committed while being an undischarged bankrupt. His new sentence will begin next May.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) became aware of Mr Anthony’s dealings after investigating the company he worked for, Marantmar Finance and Insurance. It found he was purporting to be a licensed broker and had told a client about a relationship with the industry that he didn’t actually have.

ASIC says Mr Anthony told a client he would obtain motor vehicle cover from a big insurer but intended to pocket nearly $2000.
