EQC seeks feedback on draft Code of Insured Persons’ Rights
New Zealand’s Toka Tū Ake EQC is seeking feedback for the agency’s draft Code of Insured Persons’ Rights initiative, which aims to set expectations for fair and timely management and settlement of claims under the country’s natural hazard insurance scheme.
The Code is one many initiatives that EQC is implementing as part of preparations for the commencement of the Natural Hazards Insurance (NHI) Act 2023 on July 1 next year to replace the Earthquake Commission Act.
The draft Code builds on the existing Customer Code already in use by the EQC.
“We’re keen to hear from a range of insured homeowners, as well as community members, groups and organisations, who can all bring a variety of different perspectives, as we develop the draft Code,” EQC Chief Executive Tina Mitchell said.
“We are asking whether you agree the rights and obligations set out in the draft Code focus on the right things and whether there are any other rights which should be included.”
EQC says the Code will apply from July 1 next year when EQC or its agents deal with an insured person in relation to a claim for natural hazard damage covered under the NHI Act.
Closing date for submissions is November 30.
