EQC chairman stays, new deputy appointed

Chairman of New Zealand’s Earthquake Commission (EQC) Sir Maarten Wevers has been reappointed for a further three-year term.

Board member Mary Jane Daly has been appointed Deputy Chairman for the remainder of her term which expires in February next year.

Minister Responsible for the EQC Gerry Brownlee has also appointed Tim Hurdle, a former adviser in his office, to the board.

“The EQC’s strategic planning and insurance expertise is being further bolstered with the appointment of Mr Hurdle,” the minister said.

“He has knowledge of the wider insurance market and regulations and a good understanding of government process.”

Mr Hurdle worked for IAG New Zealand before being appointed as an adviser in Mr Brownlee’s office in 2009.

Since 2013 Mr Hurdle has worked for Downer Construction.

Two EQC board members have retired: Deputy Chairman Keith Taylor, a member since 2006, and Russell Black.
