Disability inquiry to cover insurance law
The Australian Law Reform Commission will examine insurance law as part of an inquiry into potential legal barriers for disabled people.
Its terms of reference say contracts and financial services “including insurance” will be covered.
Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus requested the inquiry last week. It aims to ensure laws are responsive to disabled people’s needs and advance, promote and respect their rights.
The commission is to report by August next year. Last year it covered insurance in its report on age barriers to work.
