CTP fraud hotline attracts tip-offs
The NSW Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Fraud Taskforce is already making a difference, according to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA).
The taskforce was established last month to examine unusual claims patterns and possible exaggeration of injuries and medical expenses.
ICA made available the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Australia’s fraud hotline to support the initiative, and says insurers are now investigating several tip-offs.
“It’s too early to say whether this information will lead to charges being laid by police, but these cases are the tip of a very large iceberg,” fraud bureau spokesman Laurie Ratz said.
“Insurance fraud costs the entire community – the NSW Government estimates it adds $75 to each CTP premium.”
Cases of suspected insurance fraud can be reported to the hotline on 1800 600 444 or here.
