China looks to learn from Australian disaster work
The Chinese Government has sent a delegation to Australia to review the insurance industry’s response to natural disasters.
The 20-strong group met with Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) representatives to discuss liaison between communities, governments and the media, and the role governments play in prevention and recovery.
ICA GM Policy Risk and Disaster Planning Karl Sullivan explained the role of ICA specialists who are sent to disaster areas, and how governments can help resolve supply issues such as the shortage of roof tiles that followed a severe hailstorm in Sydney.
The delegation included representatives from the State Forestry Administration and the Department of Development Planning and Finance.
Mr Sullivan says members asked about government action immediately after disasters, the impact of bushfires and insurance for commercial forestry.
