Canterbury earthquake: royal commission’s final report delayed
The Royal Commission into building failure in the Canterbury earthquakes will deliver its report in stages after finding it can’t meet the April deadline.
The first report will be provided by June 29 and the final date for subsequent reports will be November 12.
Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson says releasing the reports in parts will ensure issues can be examined fully while still allowing the rebuild to proceed without unnecessary delay.
The first part of the final report will deal with matters relating to the rebuilding and repairs.
The commission is inquiring into building failure that caused death or injury and its recommendations on construction standards are expected to be applied throughout New Zealand.
