Bushfire royal commission consults on draft propositions
The Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements has published a series of draft propositions for public consultation before a planned hearing in the week of September 21.
A number of the propositions relate to insurance, including a suggestion that every state, territory and local governments should provide clear guidance to insurers and other stakeholders about post-disaster debris clean up.
It says the guidance should spell out whether or not assistance would be provided to help with debris removal, with and such information given in advance of, or in anticipation of a natural disaster.
To reduce “legacy risk”, a guide on retrofitting and other mitigation measures should be developed in consultation with insurers.
The draft propositions do not necessarily represent the views of the commissioners, who are expected to deliver a final report by October 28.
Closing date for submissions is September 16.
