Bushfire queries dominate hotline
The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) says 90% of calls and emails received by its natural catastrophe hotline this year were about the Victorian bushfires – and 59% of those related to specific matters concerning an insurer.
FOS says in a newsletter that 138 contacts were received between February 12 and May 31 by the hotline it set up in response to the February bushfires and Queensland floods.
Of the bushfire-related contacts, most insurer-related questions were about the amount of cover provided under policies and the extent of cover.
A spokesman said it should be emphasised that these weren’t complaints. They were enquiries from people who were seeking information or wanted help to contact their insurance company.
