Broker investigation… it’s still coming
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission's (ASIC) investigation into Australian brokers’ remuneration practices may be more than 10 weeks late, but it will be released sometime in the next month, according to the regulator.
The investigation – which was spurred by the overhaul of the US industry by New York Attorney-General Eliot Spitzer – was set up before last Christmas to look at the remuneration practices of selected Australian brokers and insurers.
The results were originally due at the end of March, but ASIC extended the deadline by a month, blaming the late responses of survey participants.
ASIC spokesman Angela Friend told Sunrise Exchange News while the regulator “doesn’t have an exact date” on when the results will be released, they will “most likely be released in the next month”.
Industry bodies including the National Insurance Brokers Association and the Insurance Council of Australia have been told by the regulator they will have the opportunity to view the results of the investigation before they are released to the public.
