“Broker” agrees to contact customers

A Melbourne man who allegedly practised as a broker when he was not licensed has been ordered to write to each of his customers and direct them to contact their insurance companies.

Alejandro Bejares, of South Caulfield, was ordered on Friday by the Federal Court to write a letter to each person he has received money from since January 1 last year for the purposes of arranging a contract of general insurance.

Under interlocutory orders restraining Mr Bejares from entering into contracts of general insurance, he must recommend to each person that they contact their insurer to determine whether the insurance arranged by him is current and appropriate to their needs.

The case against him was brought by ASIC. Final orders will be made when the case comes up for hearing on September 28.
