Brad Cooper faces more charges
Former FAI and HIH associate Brad Cooper has been charged on another three counts, bringing the total of charges to 13. He has now been accused of publishing a false or misleading statement to HIH with intent to obtain a financial advantage for another person.
That “person” related to FAI Home Security on the first two counts and the Goodwill Group on the third. Mr Cooper was charged in December with six counts under section 249B of the NSW Crimes Act.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission alleges Mr Cooper corruptly gave a cash benefit to former HIH General Manager Finance Bill Howard in relation to the processing of various claims. Last December Mr Cooper was arrested at his home and charged with 10 offences just hours after Mr Howard had pleaded guilty in the NSW Supreme Court to receiving $125,000 to write off a $1.8 million loan and $4.9 million in other payments.
The matter will be heard in the NSW Local Court on April 20.
