Australia and NZ unite to fight disasters
Australia and NZ have signed a co-operation arrangement between their national emergency management organisations.
The agreement comes after firefighters from NZ assisted in battling the Victorian bushfires in February.
Australian Attorney-General Robert McClelland says the agreement will enhance co-operation in emergency management by improving information and knowledge shared between NZ’s Ministerial Council for Policing and Emergency Management and the Australian Emergency Management Committee.
“The partnership will produce practical outcomes by building the preparedness and capability of both nations to manage the impact and consequences of disasters,” Mr McClelland said.
