Auditor disqualified
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has advised that Melbourne auditor Neil Curwood has been disqualified from being an auditor of superannuation entities. Mr Curwood was disqualified under the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 because he had failed to perform adequately and properly.
It was also found that he was not a “fit and proper” person to be an approved auditor for the purposes of the SIS Act.
APRA Head of Enforcement Daryl Roberts said the power to disqualify an auditor is not one that is used lightly. “However, APRA will disqualify any approved auditor who clearly is not suitable for the task or has failed to properly fulfil the duties of the role.”
