ASIC to consult on general advice orders
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission will consult on remaking class orders concerning general advice that are due to expire under sunset clauses.
The orders include relief on the general advice warning, which affects financial services licensees and authorised representatives giving oral advice to retail clients.
One applies to intermediaries that hold an Australian financial services licence (AFSL) and provides exemptions relating to financial services guides. Another order affects financial product issuers that do not have to hold an AFSL for giving general advice in advertising.
The regulator proposes reissuing the orders without significant changes, “so their ongoing effect will be preserved without any disruption to the entities that rely on them”.
Its consultation is open until February 9.
