ASIC set for disaster inquiry
Representatives of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) have a Thursday booking to address the House of Representatives inquiry into the operation of the insurance industry during disasters.
The Financial Ombudsman Service’s General Insurance Ombudsman, John Price, addressed the inquiry when it convened in Canberra last week.
The inquiry is covering the role of third parties such as lawyers and the Financial Ombudsman Service.
It is looking at barriers for consumers to participate in external dispute resolution and the impact of free legal advice on access to this form of settling disputes.
Following the Canberra meetings, the inquiry will go to Queensland where it will convene in Graceville and Ipswich on September 27, Toowoomba the day after and Innisfail on September 29.
