ASIC bans Adelaide insurance adviser
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has permanently banned Adelaide financial services representative Barry David Hassell from providing financial services.
Mr Hassell provided advice on life insurance, sickness and accident insurance, superannuation, managed investments and deposit products.
ASIC found he fabricated statements of advice (SOAs) and other documents relating to the financial services he provided, falsified the signatures of clients and made false or misleading statements in the documents.
The regulator says he did not inform clients about charges and other significant consequences of his advice to dispose of particular products and instead acquire others.
He also did not inform clients about his remuneration, including commission, where it may have influenced his advice. In some cases he provided inappropriate advice and did not provide SOAs as required, ASIC says.
Mr Hassell has been an authorised representative for Pivotal Financial Advisers Ltd, Guardian FP Ltd, AAA Shares Pty Ltd, AAA Financial Intelligence Ltd and most recently, 101 Wealth Solutions.
He has also carried on the business of Hassell-Free Insurance Services at various times since 1988.
