APRA to launch insurance publications
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has plans for two new statistical publications covering the general insurance industry.
The first, which replaces APRA’s General Insurance Trends, will provide quarterly data, following the introduction of new reporting requirements from July 1 2002. It is scheduled for release in the last quarter of this year.
A more comprehensive publication is being developed on a bi-annual basis that will include detailed information on individual insurers and on the industry. It will replace Selected Statistics on the General Insurance Industry. Consultation on this publication will begin early next year.
APRA Executive Member Steve Somogyi says disclosure issues have been raised in a discussion paper, Prudential Supervision of General Insurance – Stage II Reforms. The paper was released in November last year and several submissions were received.
