APRA to add second deputy chairman

The Federal Government has announced the reappointment of Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) Deputy Chairman Helen Rowell, and the nomination of current Treasury Deputy Secretary John Lonsdale as an additional deputy chairman.

Ms Rowell, who became an APRA member in 2013 and has served as Deputy Chairman since 2015, has been reappointed for a new five-year term from July 1.

Mr Lonsdale’s appointment is also for a five-year term, and is conditional on approval from the Governor-General and a change of legislation to allow for two deputy chairmen.

He will join Chairman Wayne Byres, Ms Rowell and APRA Member Geoff Summerhayes on the regulator’s executive group.

Mr Byres says expansion of the executive group will strengthen policy expertise.
