APRA completes leadership overhaul
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has appointed Sean Carmody to the new role of Risk and Data Analytics Division EGM, as the regulator completes a reorganisation.
His division includes a new combined team outlined in May that comprises governance, operational and insurance risk specialists.
Mr Carmody moves to APRA after heading Westpac’s risk analytics and insights function, which included assessing market and liquidity risk and stress testing.
He has more than 20 years’ experience in banking, finance and consulting.
APRA also says Chief Risk Officer Ben Gully had been appointed Specialised Institutions Division EGM. Mr Gully joined APRA about two years ago, after holding senior roles at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions in Canada.
The specialised institutions division includes responsibility for general insurers that are not part of wider financial conglomerates.
Chairman Wayne Byres says the appointments, along with the changes announced in May, mark a milestone in the senior leadership team overhaul.
“We have completed our organisational restructure, designed to ensure APRA continues to respond to changes in the financial sector and deliver on APRA’s mission to protect the financial wellbeing of the Australian community,” he said.
