APRA appoints new divisional chiefs

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has appointed two new EGMs, one to its diversified institutions division and another to its supervisory support division.

The current EGM of Supervisory Support, Keith Chapman, has become EGM of the Diversified Institutions Division, which supervises 250 financial institutions, including insurers.

Mr Chapman has represented APRA at the International Association of Insurance Supervisors. He replaces Wayne Byres, who has moved to Switzerland as Secretary-General of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.

Helen Rowell replaces Mr Chapman as EGM of the Supervisory Support Division. She is currently APRA GM Policy Development.

The supervisory support division comprises specialist and technical teams that provide expert advice, analysis and other support to the frontline areas of APRA responsible for prudential supervision of regulated entities. The division also contains APRA’s enforcement unit.

Ms Rowell is the current chair of APRA’s (cross-divisional) general insurance industry group and has represented the authority at the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
