AMP super agent to stand trial
Former AMP superannuation agent Harold Moses will stand trial in the Sydney District Court on Friday on six charges of fraud, including accepting $334,000 of employer super contributions without passing them on to the relevant funds. He allegedly committed the offences while operating a superannuation intermediary business through his company, Baxters Holdings.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission alleges he committed the offences between 1993 and 1998, and he has been charged with four counts of cheating and defrauding his clients during his time as a director, and two counts of obtaining money through false or misleading statements.
It said Mr Moses resigned as an AMP agent in June 1994, but continued to receive super payments from his clients for some time after that. AMP and Mercantile Mutual, for which he was also an agent, have compensated his clients for their losses.
