ALRC seeks submissions on disability review

The Australian Law Reform Commission has called for industry feedback on an issues paper examining the impact federal laws have on disabled people.

The commission says it is “interested in submissions that address… ways in which Commonwealth laws or legal frameworks for insurance deny or diminish the equal recognition of people with disability before the law and their ability to exercise legal capacity”.

The paper also seeks comment on potential changes to the insurance exemption in the Disability Discrimination Act to ensure equality before the law.

The closing date for submissions on the Equality, Capacity and Disability in Commonwealth Laws issues paper is December 16. The commission will report to the Attorney-General by next August.
