Adviser fronts court on dishonesty charges
Banned financial services adviser Barry David Hassell appeared in court in Adelaide last Friday to face more than 70 counts of dishonest conduct and dozens of other charges.
In 2012 the Australian Securities and Investments Commission permanently banned Mr Hassell from providing financial services after he was charged with 67 counts of providing false or misleading information to the regulator, including client files containing forged documents.
He was also charged with 12 counts of dishonest conduct, including making applications for insurance that contained false information, and 25 counts of failing to provide disclosure documents to clients.
The charges relate to conduct between March 11 2002 and December 13 2011 as a director of BD & WJ Hassell and as a former authorised representative of Australian financial services licensees.
These included Pivotal Financial Advisers, Guardian Financial Planning, AAA Shares, AAA Financial Intelligence and 101 Wealth Solutions.
Mr Hassell provided advice on life insurance, sickness and accident insurance, super, managed investments and deposit products.
He did not enter a plea at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday. The matter returns to court on May 13.
