ACT introduces its new CTP scheme
The ACT’s new no-fault Motor Accident Injuries Scheme came into effect on Saturday.
All drivers injured in a motor vehicle accident are now entitled to receive treatment, care and lost income benefits for up to five years, no matter who was at fault.
The community-rated scheme will see motorists in each vehicle class pay the same compulsory third party (CTP) premium regardless of their individual circumstances and risk of being involved in an accident, the ACT Government says.
Average passenger vehicle premiums will be $458.
The ACT Government began reforming CTP to promote competition in 2013. Premiums on offer now average $60 less compared with a year earlier.
Drivers who are more seriously injured will continue to be able to make a claim for further compensation through common law.
