Zurich chief calls it quits

Anthony Day, Zurich Australia’s GM General Insurance, has resigned from the company and will leave at the end of September.

Mr Day, who joined Zurich in 1999, has been in the GM’s role for the past five years.

Company spokesman Rob White told Sunrise Exchange News Mr Day’s resignation was accepted by CEO David Smith with regret. “Anthony believes Zurich’s general insurance arm is now in a strong position and it’s time for him to look at new challenges.”

At the time Mr Day joined Zurich from Chubb Insurance, Zurich was entering a horror period that saw it use financial reinsurance schemes to boost its bottom line. Mr Day was one of the leaders who kept the company stabilised through the regulatory inquiries and executive bannings that followed.
