WorkCover reforms in NSW
NSW’s workers’ compensation scheme is turning a profit at last. Changes introduced last year to the Workcover scheme have given the authority a $200 million return to put up against its $2.56 billion deficit.
The Government is relieved to say the least, with Industrial Relations Minister John Della Bosca affirming that the scheme is now “moving in the right direction” and financially back on track. Which is just as well, because if the reforms hadn’t been introduced the deficit today would have been around $3.31 billion and climbing.
