Wife caught up in kebab blast scam
And now for something a little different: A Turkish woman in Melbourne who took part in a $150,000 insurance scam has told the County Court she only did it because her husband told her to.
Fadime Cubuk signed a fraudulent insurance claim after her kebab shop was badly damaged, despite knowing that her husband Mohamed, a part-owner, had blown the place up to make an insurance claim.
Ms Cubuk said under Islamic law her arranged marriage required her to obey her husband at all times or risk being beaten.
Mr Cubuk was sentenced to a minimum of two years jail, and his wife will be sentenced on Thursday.
