Warning over ‘NRMA Insurance’ scam emails

NRMA Insurance has warned of a scam involving an email purportedly from the insurer offering the chance to win a “car emergency kit”.

The fake email has been received by customers of the IAG-owned brand, and non-policyholders too. Identical scams using the brands and logos of several other companies are also currently operating in Australia.

“IAG’s security defences are operational and there is no indication of a data breach,” a spokesperson told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “Customers and non-customers who receive the scam email are urged to delete it and to not click on any links. We advise people who have provided payment details to contact their bank immediately.

“We continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they come to light.”

IAG first posted scam alert warnings on September 20, across the NRMA Insurance website, the NRMA Insurance app and via social media.

The email has the subject line: “You have won an NRMA car emergency kit –vq6di.” Under the NRMA Insurance logo, it says: “Congratulations! You can win an exclusive prize. We value your feedback! You have been selected as one of the lucky few for a unique opportunity to receive a brand-new Car Emergency Kit! To claim, simply answer a few quick questions regarding you (sic) experience with NRMA.”
