WA workers’ comp changes spark fears
The WA Government’s proposed reforms to the state’s workers’ compensation scheme are due to be tabled in the WA Legislative Assembly next week, although there are suggestions the Bill is in for a torrid time once it reaches the Legislative Council. Feedback from a one-day conference organised by the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) in Perth last week suggests there is significant doubt the Bill will pass unamended.
Daryl Cameron, ICA’s Regional Manager for WA & the NT, says there were considerable concerns expressed at the conference by all stakeholders and service providers. “The changes are broad and open to claimant behaviour,” he said. “No one’s sure what would happen, including the actuary.”
