WA teaches clubs risk management

The WA Government is holding risk management education and awareness seminars across the state as part of its campaign to tackle the so-called public liability crisis. And insurers are coming to the party with proposals for a facilitation service for community groups still experiencing problems gaining access to the market.

In a letter to WA Premier Geoff Gallop, Insurance Council of Australia Executive Director Alan Mason acknowledged the state’s commitment to fighting rising business and community liability premiums. So far WA has introduced four major new laws to deal with the issue, with the latest protecting volunteers from personal liability.

Now the Department of Sport and Recreation is co-ordinating the risk management workshops across the state with the Insurance Commission, introducing free risk management software and guidelines. Mr Gallop said the program is intended to “aid organisations to identify and better manage risks”.
