It’s a similar story in Melbourne, where claims from last Thursday’s storms have also soared into the millions. Insurance Council of Australia Corporate Affairs Manager Rod Frail says many policyholders in Melbourne’s inner eastern suburbs are still cleaning up and have yet to report damage.

“The storms we’ve seen in Queensland and Victoria are a normal occurrence at this time of year,” he said. “I’d expect it to be well in line with insurers’ expectations.”
