Victorian Government helps pay for flood damage
The Victorian State Government will be giving $10.4 million package to businesses, councils and tourism operators that were affected by last month’s floods.
The package includes $5 million to help restore eligible community infrastructure after consultation with local councils.
A further $5 million will be provided to flood damaged businesses including farms and $100,000 will be given to affected councils for hosting key events to encourage visitors to their regions.
In addition, the Government is paying $300,000 to establish five flood recovery officers for six months to help councils to deal with the impact of the floods and the recovery process.
State Treasurer John Lenders, who is also Chairman of the Flood Recovery Ministerial Taskforce, says a second package will be delivered in the coming weeks.
At the peak of floods there were more than 120 road closures and there are still about 35 local roads closed across the state and one arterial road (the Kiewa Valley Highway) closed for repairs.
