Vero steps in after Victorian building firm folds
Builders’ warranty insurer Vero has again been called into action after Victorian building firm Paulding Constructions entered administration this month.
Vero has received 16 claims for incomplete or defective works, which are currently being assessed. A creditors meeting will be held on Friday.
The insurer estimates between 30-50 homes are under construction.
Vero says it has been advised by broker Willis Australasia that interim insurance cover for the incomplete homes is in place.
The insurer has also moved to clarify its position in the builders’ warranty market following speculation it is considering withdrawing the cover.
It follows a decision by the NSW Government last month to axe its privatised scheme and underwrite the cover itself from July next year.
“Vero is holding discussions with the relevant state governments to ascertain what their response will be to the NSW changes to the Home Warranty Insurance Scheme, including any impacts this may have on their markets,” the company said in a statement.
“After these discussions, and once Vero has been advised what the various state governments intend to do with their respective home warranty schemes, Vero will determine its role in those markets.”
