Trowbridge gains actuary award

The Institute of Actuaries of Australia has named new regulatory chief John Trowbridge as Actuary of the Year.

Mr Trowbridge, who was appointed Executive Member of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) in July, was presented with the award in recognition of his contribution to business, government and the actuarial profession.

Institute President Martin Stevenson says Mr Trowbridge was commended for his role in advancing the profession. “This award celebrates John’s contribution to the actuarial and financial services industries and acknowledges his role as one of the actuaries instrumental in developing the general insurance practice area.

“John consistently demonstrates the value actuaries can add, particularly through his consultation work with government and in the financial services sector. He should be commended for his role in advancing the profession.”

Prior to his APRA appointment, Mr Trowbridge was a director of Munich Re and Group Executive for General Insurance at Suncorp. He has also held board and advisory positions including Treasurer of the Financial Sector Advisory Council.
