Theft reduction bounces back

Vehicle theft numbers around Australia are set to come down following the introduction of Operation Bounce Back.

The operation is a collaboration between 20 shire councils and the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council to educate car owners about the risks and costs of car theft.

Through grants of $15,000-35,000, theft reduction strategies have been conveyed to residents via TV advertisements, magnets, coffee mugs and security information packages.

Participating councils are also offering more than 1800 car owners free installation of an engine immobiliser approved by Standards Australia.

The program wraps up at the end of next week but the TV advertisements will continue to run on the WIN network in Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, WA and SA.
