Suncorp Insurance has cemented its position as the country’s best top car insurer in the annual report of rating company Canstar Cannex.

The company – a subsidiary of Suncorp which operates only in Queensland – has been named the winner of the “outstanding claims service for the second consecutive year, while Budget Direct and AAMI claimed top rankings for providing the best value”.

The rating report analyses 39 policies from 30 car insurers using “shadow shopping” methods including 15,000 online and phone quotes from across Australia.

It says 44.9% of customers are “very satisfied” with their claims experience, while 17% are “neither satisfied or dissatisfied” with their insurer.

Canstar Research Manager Chris Groth says about “80% of drivers intend to stick with their present insurers”.

He says only 15% indicated a need to shop around and switch.
