Storm vehicles receive duty refund
Government rebates on storm-damaged vehicles in the Hunter Valley and Central Coast regions have been eagerly embraced by motorists.
Nearly 1000 motorists in the Newcastle area have received a rebate on their written-off vehicle at a cost of more than $326,000 to the State Government.
NSW Treasurer Michael Costa is offering refunds on car registration stamp duties for motorists whose vehicles were written off during storms in June.
Only vehicle owners with comprehensive insurance that doesn’t include stamp duty on replacement vehicles are eligible for the refunds.
Mr Costa says motorists have received an average refund of $382, but some rebates were more than $23,000.
In June, nearly 2000 storm-damaged vehicles were sold at auction. About 90% were repairable write-offs.
