Squire recognised for services to regulation

National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) Life Brokers and Advisers Committee Chairman David Squire is a man of many associations. Now his contribution to the industry has been recognised by one of those organisations.

Mr Squire – who is a director of Apogee Broker Services – was one of five industry professionals honoured at the Investment and Financial Services Association (IFSA) Industry Excellence Awards.

His citation says Mr Squire has worked tirelessly for several industry bodies, such as the Financial Planning Association, IFSA and NIBA, and the Financial Industry Complaints Service.

He has been one of the main facilitators of IFSA regulatory initiatives since 1994 – the year he established NIBA’s Life Brokers and Advisers Committee.

He told Sunrise Exchange News he’s flattered his work on regulation has been recognised, but there will have to be more work yet before he’s satisfied.

“We’re still in refinement mode when it comes to the Financial Services Reform Act,” he said. “Beyond that I think the anti-money laundering and terrorism legislation is going to be just as big, and it’s going to consume a lot of our time.”

Other professionals recognised for their commitment to the industry were Emma Grainge of the IFSA Secretariat, David Glen of Tower, Sue Merriman of BT, and Brian Bissaker of Colonial.
