Relief in sight for HIH creditors

HIH Insurance creditors might receive a dividend by the start of next year, according to the failed insurer’s liquidator, Tony McGrath. He told Channel Nine’s Business Sunday program that the estimated return rate for creditors will be up to 20 cents in the dollar.

“The only way that we can pay a dividend to creditors is through implementing a scheme of arrangement… [which] is really designed to just define how people can claim into the estate,” he said. “That’s at quite an advanced stage and our full expectation is that the scheme will be approved before the end of this year and that dividends will be paid shortly thereafter.”
